Eminem, also known as Marshall Mathers, has made a grand comeback with the release of the music video for "Houdini," the lead single from his upcoming album, "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)." The video is a star-studded affair, featuring appearances from prominent figures like Snoop Dogg, Pete Davidson, and comedian Shane Gillis, who hosted Saturday Night Live on February 24.


"Houdini," which samples the Steve Miller Band's hit song "Abracadabra" from 1982, pays homage to Eminem's classic 2002 video for "Without Me." The video begins with the familiar lyrics, "Guess who's back, back again/Shady's back, tell a friend," instantly triggering nostalgia for fans of the rapper.


The video transports the bleach-blond Slim Shady from 2002 into the present day of 2024. The younger version of Eminem wanders through the city, bewildered by modern technological advancements like selfie sticks and VR headsets.


This release marks Eminem's first music drop since his 2020 album, "Music to Be Murdered By." In a nod to nostalgia, Dr. Dre, Eminem's mentor who signed him in 1998 and appeared in the original "Without Me" video, calls out to the 2024 version of the rapper, urging him to address a looming issue.


Comic book panels flash on screen, showcasing celebrities like 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg belting out the infectious chorus, "Guess who's back?"


Feeling the need to return as his alter-ego superhero Rapboy, Eminem dons spandex and teams up with Dr. Dre to locate the present-day Slim Shady. The duo embarks on a citywide search, encountering the disillusioned Slim Shady who is unimpressed with the current state of affairs. In a fit of frustration, Slim Shady disrupts a podcast recording featuring Shane Gillis, wreaking havoc in the studio.


The climax of the video sees Rapboy and the 2002 version of Slim Shady engaging in a dramatic rooftop showdown, highlighting the conflict between past and present identities.


Eminem's "Houdini" video not only serves as a musical return for the iconic rapper but also as a visual spectacle filled with celebrity cameos and nostalgic nods to his earlier works. Fans eagerly anticipate the release of his upcoming album, set to deliver more of the innovative and captivating storytelling that Eminem is known for.
