Iain Dale to step down from LBC to put himself forward to be selected as a candidate for MP in the General Election
Iain Dale, a long-serving presenter for LBC, has announced he is stepping down from his role to pursue a candidacy for MP in the upcoming General Election on July 4th. Speaking live on air, Dale expressed his lifelong ambitions to be both a radio presenter and an MP. Despite previous setbacks, he is determined to give it another try, hoping to restore trust and honesty in politics.
Dale joined LBC in 2010, contributing significantly to the station's political coverage, including hosting four General Election Night shows, two American Presidential Election shows, and various referendum night shows. His departure is influenced by broadcast rules prohibiting General Election candidates from presenting radio shows.
Reflecting on his decision, Dale thanked everyone at LBC and Global for their support, friendship, and understanding. Tom Cheal, LBC’s Senior Managing Editor, praised Dale as a world-class broadcaster and acknowledged his substantial impact on the station’s growth as a political powerhouse. Cheal expressed gratitude for Dale’s contributions and hinted at the possibility of his return in the future.
LBC will soon announce its evening programming plans for the election period, ensuring continuous coverage across the UK on Global Player, DAB digital radio and TV, LBC.co.uk, and in London on 97.3 FM.
