Will Alves and Dane Scarlett Goals Secure Victory for Young Lions in Croatia

England’s men’s Elite League Squad kicked off their trip to Croatia with a 2-1 victory over Sweden at Stadion ŠRC Sesvete on Friday. This win marks the first of their two games this month under interim head coach Ben Futcher.

The Young Lions started strong, with Will Alves scoring just eleven minutes into the match. Alves, who was returning to international action after over a year out due to injury, struck from just outside the area, finding the top corner and giving England an early lead.

Despite England’s dominance, Sweden had their chances. Kaelan Casey made a crucial goal-line clearance, and both Tim Prica and Jacob Ondrejka attempted long-range shots to catch goalkeeper Jed Ward off guard. However, neither effort was successful.

England maintained control of the match and went into halftime with their 1-0 lead intact. Futcher made several substitutions early in the second half, refreshing the team.

Captain Dane Scarlett then doubled England's lead around the 59th minute. He skillfully shielded off multiple challenges in the box before scoring from close range.

Sweden managed to pull a goal back in the final minute, thanks to Deniz Gul, but England held on to secure the 2-1 victory.
