Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo made headlines on Friday night after storming down the tunnel following his second-half substitution during a 3-1 win over Al Kholood in the Saudi Pro League.
The 40-year-old forward, who scored in the fourth minute to give his team an early lead, was substituted by manager Stefano Pioli after an hour of play, with Al Nassr comfortably ahead 3-0. Ronaldo appeared visibly frustrated as he left the pitch, embracing teammate Jhon Duran before heading straight to the tunnel.
Despite the visible frustration, Ronaldo did shake hands with Pioli and exchanged words with the Italian coach on the touchline. However, his abrupt departure sparked speculation among fans about his reaction, with some questioning whether it was due to injury or dissatisfaction with the substitution.
This marked only the fifth time in 24 league matches this season that Ronaldo has not played the full 90 minutes. It was also the fourth time in seven games that Pioli has substituted his captain.
Ronaldo has been in stellar form this season, netting his 28th goal in all competitions during the match. His teammates Sadio Mane and Jhon Duran also contributed to the scoreline, securing a commanding lead before halftime.
Despite being reduced to ten men after Nawaf Boushal's red card, Al Nassr managed to hold on for the win, though they conceded a late own goal by Ali Lajami.
The victory leaves Al Nassr fourth in the Saudi Pro League table, ten points behind leaders Al Ittihad with nine games remaining.
Ronaldo, who has been named in Portugal's squad for the upcoming Nations League quarter-finals, will captain his national team in their matches against Denmark on March 20 and 23.
