Dallas Mavericks Face Tough Challenge Against Milwaukee Bucks in Crucial Home Stand

Dallas, March 1, 2025 – The Dallas Mavericks are in the midst of a critical six-game stretch, with five home games that could significantly impact their NBA playoff hopes. However, their next challenge is a formidable one as they host the Milwaukee Bucks on March 1 (March 2, Singapore time).

The Bucks, one of the Eastern Conference’s top teams, are coming off a strong 121-112 victory over the Denver Nuggets on February 27. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the charge with 28 points and 19 rebounds, while newly acquired forward Kyle Kuzma contributed 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

Bucks coach Doc Rivers praised Kuzma’s impact, noting his ability to maintain scoring momentum late in games. “Getting him involved, because of his vision and ability to go downhill, is just huge for that unit,” Rivers said. Since Kuzma’s arrival nine games ago, the Bucks have improved their fourth-quarter scoring average from 26.0 to 28.1 points.

The Mavericks, meanwhile, are looking to tighten their defence, which currently allows 113.1 points per game. Despite their struggles, they recently held the Charlotte Hornets to under 100 points in a 103-96 victory on February 27, their first such defensive performance since January 17.

Dallas will need to step up their interior defence against Milwaukee’s dominant frontcourt duo of Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez. The Mavericks are currently without key big men Anthony Davis, Daniel Gafford, and Dereck Lively II due to injuries. Davis, acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, has played just one game for Dallas, scoring 26 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists before suffering a left adductor injury.

With Davis sidelined, the Mavericks have gone 4-3 in their last seven games and currently sit in eighth place in the Western Conference. Kyrie Irving, the team’s leading scorer at 24.9 points per game, emphasized the importance of accountability and development as the team pushes for a playoff spot.

“A lot of guys are getting used to being in winning situations, so there’s that development aspect that’s needed,” Irving said. “As peers, we’ve got to hold each other accountable, too.”

In other NBA news, the Cleveland Cavaliers extended their winning streak to nine games with a 123-116 victory over the Boston Celtics on February 28. Donovan Mitchell scored 41 points, leading the Cavaliers to their seventh consecutive road win and solidifying their position as the NBA’s best team with a 49-10 record.

The Mavericks will need a strong performance against the Bucks to keep their playoff hopes alive as they navigate a challenging schedule and roster setbacks.
