Olympic Champion Lydia Ko Leads After Third Round of HSBC Women’s World Championship 2025

Singapore, March 1, 2025 – Lydia Ko, the reigning Olympic champion, has taken the outright lead after the third round of the HSBC Women’s World Championship at Sentosa Golf Club’s Tanjong Course. The New Zealand golfer carded a four-under 68, bringing her total to 10-under 206, one stroke ahead of England’s Charley Hull.

This marks the 20th time in Ko’s career that she has led after the third round, with the 27-year-old winning nine of the previous 19 instances. Despite her strong position, Ko remains focused on her game rather than the prospect of securing her first victory in Singapore, which would be her 23rd LPGA title.

Reflecting on her mindset, Ko drew parallels to her triumph at the 2024 Women’s British Open, where she overcame an eight-year Major title drought. “I wasn’t really looking at where I was on the leaderboard; I was just trying to take it one hole at a time,” she said. “That’s a really good mindset to be in, in any circumstances.”

Ko’s third round was a mix of highs and lows, with four birdies and three bogeys in the first 11 holes. However, she regained momentum with consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th holes, followed by a crucial birdie on the par-five 16th that secured her the lead.

After a disappointing tied-48th finish at the Founders Cup earlier in February, Ko used the break to reset and prepare for the Singapore event. “Regardless of what happens tomorrow, I’m just really excited for the season ahead,” she said.

Charley Hull, who sits one stroke behind Ko, also shot a four-under 68 despite feeling unwell in the morning. The world No. 9 even managed a personal-best 5km run before her round. “My mindset is going to be no different from the last three days – just go out there, play golf, hole some putts, and have fun,” Hull said.

Other contenders include Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul, who climbed to third place after shooting a 66, the lowest round of the day. Defending champion Hannah Green also remains in the mix, tied for seventh after a 67.

Singaporean golfer Shannon Tan is tied for 17th after a 69, while compatriot Chen Xingtong sits in 62nd place.

The final round promises an exciting showdown as Ko aims to cap her strong performance with a victory, while Hull and others look to challenge for the title.
