PGA Play-Offs Return to Cyprus with Tour Spots on the Line

The PGA Play-Offs are back, and this year’s event will take place at the stunning Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus from March 5-7, 2025. The tournament will feature 24 top-performing PGA Members from the past 12 months, all vying for a chance to secure exemptions for prestigious DP World Tour and HotelPlanner Tour events later in the year.

What’s at Stake?

  • 1st Place: Exemptions for the Betfred British Masters, Amgen Irish Open, BMW PGA Championship, and two HotelPlanner Tour events: the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge and Irish Challenge.
  • 2nd Place: Exemptions for the Betfred British Masters and the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge.

The Field:

The 24-player field includes the top three players from each PGA region, along with standout performers from the PGA Professional Championship (Craig Lee and James Ruth) and the PGA Assistants’ Championship winner, Matty Lamb. Midlands’ Daniel Whitby-Smith, winner of the PGA Pro-Captain Challenge, is also among the competitors.

Player Perspectives:

  • Daniel Whitby-Smith: “This will be my third year in a row at this event, and I’ve always enjoyed coming back. The golf course is excellent but very demanding. The chance to gain tour starts is huge, and I’m desperate to get more starts, particularly with the British Masters being on my doorstep.”
  • James Ruth: “The event and venue are both great, and I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to be here. The course is playing great – perhaps a little softer than last year, which is a good thing for us players.”

The Venue:

Aphrodite Hills, now known as PGA National Cyprus, is a breathtaking resort overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The 6,289-yard championship course, opened in 2002, is known for its challenging tee shots and undulating greens.

Tournament Organizer’s Take:

Philip Davies, Head of Tournaments at The PGA, said: “There’s a great deal at stake for PGA Members, with spots available for the winner and second-place finisher at a number of prestigious events. We wish all competitors the very best of luck.”
