 UCLA Health Becomes Official Team Physicians for USA Basketball at Olympic Games


UCLA Health has been appointed as the official team physicians for USA Basketball, marking the beginning of a multi-year partnership aimed at providing top-notch orthopaedic and sports medical care to the national basketball teams at various prestigious events, including the Olympic Games. 

The collaboration between USA Basketball and UCLA Health signifies a commitment to ensuring the players’ physical fitness and well-being for optimal performance on the global stage.


USA Basketball, the governing body for basketball in the United States, and UCLA Health, a renowned healthcare system, have solidified their partnership to prioritize the health and medical needs of the athletes.

 UCLA Health will offer medical coverage to the men's and women's basketball national teams at the upcoming two Olympic Games, International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cups, training camps, and will extend support to the USA Basketball junior national team program.


Jim Tooley, CEO of USA Basketball, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating that collaborating with UCLA Health will enhance the provision of high-quality medical coverage for the athletes, enabling them to excel in major global competitions.

Dr. Nicholas Bernthal, chair and executive medical director of the department of orthopaedic surgery at UCLA Health, highlighted the institution's strong background in working with top professional and collegiate athletes in Los Angeles, affirming their readiness to assist USA Basketball in optimizing performance on a global scale.
